Business leaders hail collaboration between government and private sector on trade
The Institute of Directors has today welcomed the announcement that the new International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox, has signed up the UK’s five biggest banks to drive their business customers to join a new Directory of Exporters. Allie Renison, Head of Trade Policy at the IoD, said:
“We are very pleased to see that the new International Trade Department is already linking up well with the private sector to take practical steps to promote UK exports. Businesses and all parts of government have to work together if the UK is to make an opportunity out of Brexit.
“Financial intermediaries like banks are going to be crucial to helping businesses realise export opportunities. The next step is to make sure these links are forged at the local level. National pledges of support are one thing, but direct engagement from banks and other professional services firms with companies is how this campaign will take us from opportunity to reality.”
