Looking ahead to this week’s EU summit, Allie Renison, Head of Europe and Trade Policy at the Institute of Directors, said:
“While reports indicate that this week’s Council meeting looks unlikely to deliver a withdrawal agreement signed on the dotted line, it is still important that further progress is delivered to help get us over the line come November.
“In spite of all the political noise on both sides of the Channel, this summit should not simply become another squandered opportunity to advance negotiations. While no-deal may seem more likely, the message from business is keep calm and carry on negotiating. There is too much at stake to throw in the towel now.
“Agreeing the withdrawal deal remains the sole focus in order to ensure an orderly exit from the EU, and getting this done will only be achieved by hard work, compromise and steady hands. The Prime Minister must keep her eyes on the prize rather than be distracted by voices on the sidelines.”
