IoD comments on news that number of women on FTSE boards up by 50 per cent in just five years

Commenting on the news released by the Government today, IoD Senior Policy Adviser Joe Fitzsimons said:

“In recent years, there has been important progress in improving the gender balance of major company boards, but much remains to be done. While womens’ representation in non-executive roles has improved, there has been much less progress in fostering diversity at the senior executive level. Diversity and inclusion remains a work in progress for many organisations.

Businesses must continue to focus their attention on developing boards with a breadth of perspectives. There should be a renewed focus on strengthening the pipeline of diverse talent into senior positions.  Diversity in the boardroom and throughout the organisation enhances strategic thinking and innovation. This will be essential for business and the economy as we seek to move on from the pandemic.”
