What time does your alarm go off?
My alarm goes off at 6:40 in the morning. I’ll take my 1-year-old cocker spaniel out for a walk, before coming back and showering. I’ll then leave for the office at about 8:20, to arrive at 9am.
What are you responsible for?
I am responsible for the entire business: Finance, HR, Operations, Support, the whole lot, including washing the dishes!
How did you become an entrepreneur?
When I didn’t make it into university, I decided to use my leadership skills and knowledge of IT to make a job for myself.
Describe your typical day?
After getting up and going into the office, the first 30 minutes are spent dealing with any emails that may have come in overnight. My Monday mornings usually involve having progress meetings with my Director of Development, Dec, and Alex, my Director of Sales, so we can see where the business is at and what the week ahead holds.
After that, there are always things to be doing, whether it’s client meetings, quotes, or financial tasks such as generating invoices. I try to boost my team’s personal development too by helping them learn about new things and test their knowledge by challenging them with problems and tasks. I spend 2-4 days per month in our London office, where the majority of the day is spent in meetings to further the business.
Most memorable moment?
Definitely being the youngest person to win the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards in 2017 for innovation and technology.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
There’s always an opportunity somewhere, it just might not always be obvious.
What are the best things about your job?
I’ve had some incredible experiences over the past eight years of trading, and I’ve met some amazing people. My job has also allowed me the freedom to have unforgettable personal experiences too.
How do you unwind after work?
At the weekends, I enjoy spending time with my partner Amy. We’ll either just take the days slowly, or explore new places together. I enjoy watching live music and where possible I’ll attend live music events. During the week, I spend my evenings mostly creating quotes for customers as it’s a time when I’m least likely to be uninterrupted.
Where do you go for personal &/or professional advice?
My dad is always there, so are the investors in the business, and my partner. Amy will always give me the best advice that she can, and if that doesn’t help I’ll work my hardest to muddle my way through and come out bigger and stronger on the other side!
What do you attend/read/watch to get ideas and inspiration?
I like sci-fi movies and these can often give me new ideas about technology. BBC’s Click is also a great programme to learn about new evolving technologies.
How do you stay productive throughout the day?
I’m fortunate to have an office in the Sussex countryside, and an office in central London. When productivity plummets throughout the day, I’ll take a moment to go outside and enjoy the scenery. If I’m in London I’ll go and pick up a snack from a café, as it’s a novelty for me being close enough to walk somewhere for food! I often find that when I’m outside and on the phone to clients, these are my most productive phone calls.
What would have been your alternative career?
If I had got into university, I believe I would be part of a legal team within an organisation.
