IoD Open House on the Road: MHFA Workshops

In the recent survey conducted by the IoD as part of its Mental Health and Wellbeing at Work campaign, 60% of people who responded remarked that no mental health training is currently offered to management within their organisations. This is largely due to a lack of information, as well as budget and timing constraints, and more needs to be done to encourage the provision of specialist training for business leaders.

In May 2019, the Institute of Directors kicks off its Open House on the Road event series, focused on three core business themes: Global, Connected, Inclusive. The series overall aims to provide a forum for business leaders around the UK to learn from, and network with, some of the business world’s greatest thought leaders.

In line with the IoD’s current Mental Health & Wellbeing at Work campaign, an initiative supported by partners Mind and Westfield Health, each of the Inclusive Business events featured in Open House on the Road will shine a light on the mental health of business leaders and explore in more detail what help is available, as well as addressing a variety of additional topics including gender pay gap, diversity, disability and more.

As part of the program, each delegate will have the opportunity to join a complimentary interactive session with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), which provides training to give people the skills and confidence to recognise signs of common mental health issues, offer non-judgmental first-aid help and guide a person towards further support for recovery. Delegates will be asked to participate in a short quiz to test their mental health knowledge, and complete an activity on managing their own stress. This will be interspersed with further workplace statistics and strategies around a holistic, organisational approach to mental health and well-being.

Dates for the Inclusive Business events are as follows:

  • Manchester Marriott Victoria and Albert Hotel, Manchester - 16 May 2019
  • National Conference Centre, Solihull - 18 Sep 2019
  • Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire - 25 Sep 2019
  • Jesmond Dene House, Newcastle Upon Tyne - 16 Oct 2019
  • Grange St.Paul's Hotel, London - 08 Nov 2019
