Andrew Silvester will join the UK’s oldest association for business leaders to co-ordinate campaigns across areas of public and regulatory policy.
Silvester joins the IoD from the Taxpayers Alliance where, as Campaigns Director, he scrutinised the inner workings of government and held politicians, local and national, to account for their spending decisions. Silvester will take his place alongside Edwin Morgan, Head of Media Relations, with both working under the guidance of Deputy Director of Policy, Jimmy McLoughlin.
Commenting on the move, Simon Walker, Director General of the IoD, said:
“Andrew is joining at an exciting and challenging time. With a new Government elected and the crucial EU referendum on the horizon, the IoD will be campaigning for a competitive business environment which encourages start-ups, and helps businesses large and small to grow, take on staff, and continue powering the economy.”
“I’ve always enjoyed being at the forefront of campaigns, and this is a thrilling time to be joining the IoD whilst the UK leads the world in entrepreneurial and digital revolutions. The IoD has been creating some of the most innovative policy campaigns for some time now and I am looking to build on that work and ensure that the conditions are right for exciting British businesses of all sizes to prosper in the 21st century.”
In his last role before the IoD Andy was Campaign Director at the TaxPayers’ Alliance where he led appeared regularly in the print media and on national television on subjects including business and personal taxation and the future of the public sector.
