In 2014, Margaret Casely-Hayford was named Business Person of the Year at the Black British Business Awards. In the same year she was appointed Chair of International development charity, ActionAid UK.

After 30 years as a lawyer, she retired from executive roles and now advises organisations in the area of corporate governance.

She is also a Board Apprentice ambassador - a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to increasing diversity on boards by widening the pool of board-ready candidates.

On the need for employers and headhunters to search for talent in unconventional places, she says, “We need to bring in another context. In our interview she talks about…

  • Why business leaders need to promote diversity and constantly look for talent in the broadest of areas. “That is the future. There is a whole slew of people who still feel that they aren’t part of the game.”
  • Her time working for john Lewis and its ‘visionary’ approach to diversity in the boardroom.
  • Why headhunters operating in the international arena ‘have got the ability to reshape the future of the world.’
