What was the main challenge you experienced as a student before joining the IoD?

"Before joining the IoD I always had issues with interacting in formal situations. But after I joined the Student Network I found the support needed to develop my confidence."

What have you found as a result of being an IoD Student Member?

"Throughout my year as an IoD Student Member, I have attended various IoD events and have seen my confidence increase when I speak to high level business people."

How long have you been a member of the IoD Student network?

"I have been part of the IoD Student Network for a year and now going onto my second."

What is your favourite thing about being part of the IoD Student community?

"Being part of the IoD Student community opens up the floor to network with all different people from Full Members to 99er to students. The thing that I like the most is easy to communicate with everyone equally."

What are three other benefits you’ve enjoyed as a result of being a member?

"Having access to the IoD Student Member LinkedIn Group gives me a chance to talk to other student members from across the nations that have similar attributes. Being a part of The IoD Student Membership is a popular and great talking point in interviews as it helps to show my keen interest in the current business environment. Lastly, having access to exclusive Regional Events in the North West Region that cover different industry sectors for a reduced price is a great advantage."

How has the relationship between the IoD and your University been of benefit to you?

"Being able to include the IoD on my CV has opened the door for in job interviews. Furthermore, from being able to associate myself with the like of the Institute of Directors and learn from all of the inspiring stories to come from them has helped shape me into the businessman I would like to be after university."

What does being an entrepreneur mean to you?

"Being an entrepreneur for me does not revolve around having a business idea; it is about seeing an opportunity and taking it. Anyone can be an entrepreneur as long as when the opportunity arises to better yourself you take it."

What would you say to anyone considering becoming a student member and would you recommend it?

"Just do it! You don’t have anything to lose but a lot to gain. So why not?"

If you could give one piece of advice to fellow students, what would it be and why?

“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, at the end of the day as an IoD Student Member you are already a step ahead of other students. Take advantage of it!"
