Ann Jordan has her own marketing business specialising in strategic planning and PR. She works with the NHS and large venture capital backed healthcare providers in the acute hospital sector as well as ‘high end’ boutique businesses.
She is also the director of a family-run group of builders’ merchants. Jordan has been a non-executive director for the IoD since 2010.
Why did you become a member of the IoD?
"I was in my early 20s, I was quite ambitious and saw the value of networking as a means of talking about my business, which was private healthcare. My father thought it would be a good idea to get some experience by mixing with business people in a relaxed environment and he recommended the IoD.
“I became the director of a private healthcare company at the age of 23, which we eventually sold to BUPA. I very quickly got involved with participating in IoD events. It gave me a nice mix of learning from the speakers and, at the same time, connecting with business colleagues."
"The IoD Annual Convention is a ‘must’ in the calendar and the events in the regions still create a focus for learning and good conversation."
What does being a member mean to you?
"I enjoy the range of services that the IoD can offer its members. It is the ideal organisation for me and still meets my personal development needs. I make a lot of use of the business hubs dotted around the country – they all provide an excellent drop-in facility.
“The IoD Annual Convention is a ‘must’ in my calendar and the events in the regions still create a focus for learning and good conversation. I have two sons in my family builders’ merchants business who have also become members."
What connections have you made as a result of being a member?
"I have made excellent contacts, both in terms of friendships and being in the company of business people who always offer good conversation. It makes business life an interesting space to be in. The array of speakers also adds connectivity. Quite often they introduce an application which could be applied to your business and can open other channels that you perhaps haven’t thought of pursuing."
