Signature NED Roundtable – Family Business Leaders Discussion with Mairi Mickel
Join members of the IoD and their guests for a delicious meal and roundtable discussion about the role of the NXD with a family business lens.
As a fourth-generation owner, and ex Board Director of her 100 year old family business, Mactaggart & Mickel Group, Mairi Mickel understands the challenges faced by family businesses, bringing better communication practices and planning into all places decisions are made. She founded Mairi Mickel’s Business Families, a coaching and consulting practice, in 2012 to provide business families with specialist continuity or exit planning support. Since then, she has helped a wide range of owners (in the UK and internationally) to future proof both their family business and their business family for this generation and the next, something that has got even more complex since the the BRP/ IHT changes in October’s budget.
Mairi will be joined by Norma Stewart at Azets Glasgow, who has over 30 years' experience advising family businesses and their owners on their business and personal tax and financial planning requirements and Nathalie Agnew, IoD Edinburgh and Lothians chair, who has over 20 years’ experience advising family businesses on strategic communications.
This event is open to those with experience in the family business sector, from family business owners/shareholders, to senior executives/directors working in family businesses, and independent NXDs who have sat, or would like to sit, on family business boards. The Chatham House rules conversation will explore common themes in family business board rooms and tease out some of the opportunities and challenges for exec and non-exec family business directors.
Places are strictly limited to 20 attendees to enable one discussion around the table.
The Dinner will be held in the Annan Suite at The Balmoral Hotel, 7pm for a 7.15pm start.
