Anthony Thompson - Managing Partner, 56º North

Anthony is one of the UK's most experienced corporate affairs, public policy and government relations advisers.

He is co-founder and managing partner of 56º North, a leading independent strategic communications advisory firms specialising in advising clients on reputation, public affairs and public policy issues.

56º North is based in Edinburgh, with offices in Newcastle and London, and since launching in 2020 has built a client base spanning established listed FTSE businesses to some of the country’s most exciting start-up and scale-up companies.

Prior to launching 56° North, Anthony was a senior corporate affairs director for big banks and insurance companies in the UK and Europe – leading strategic communications and public affairs through complex periods of change, including mergers and acquisition, IPOs, and State Aid programmes.

Anthony started his career at the CBI, where he worked extensively on employment and pensions policy in the New Labour era, before going on to lead the CBI’s EU lobbying in Brussels and member state capitals as head of the CBI’s Brussels office.

Anthony is a graduate of Birmingham University (Russian) and the London School of Economics (Social Policy).
