Speaker Details

Hon. Dr Alexander Allinson MHK was appointed as Minister for Enterprise in October 2021, overseeing the Isle of Man Department for Enterprise, a Department of the Isle of Man Government with primary responsibility for economic growth, industry liaison and business support.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK was first elected as a Member of the House of Keys for Ramsey in 2016, following an extensive career in the healthcare sector.

In his first administration he took up a role as political Member at the Department for Home Affairs, Chair of Manx Utilities and Member of the Cabinet Office. He was also appointed as a Member of the Select Committee on the Functioning of Tynwald from 2017 to 2018, and later held the post of Chair of the Select Committee of Tynwald on Public Service Broadcasting from 2018-2019, before being appointed as Minister for Education, Sport and Culture from 2020 to 2021.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK was re-elected as a Member of the House of Keys for Ramsey in October 2021, and has since been appointed Minister for Enterprise. In his role as Minister for Enterprise, Dr Alex Allinson MHK has worked alongside the Economic Strategy Board to implement support measures for businesses following the Coronavirus pandemic, and continues to drive forward work on the creation of a long term economic plan for the Island and development of the Island Plan.

Prior to his political career, Dr Alex Allinson MHK studied Medicine at King’s College Cambridge before specialising in paediatrics and undertaking a twelve month specialist rotation at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He later worked as a community Paediatrician in Hackney, United Kingdom, before deciding to study and pursue general practice. He held several positions as a GP in North London and spent over three years in Western Australia working with Aboriginal health organisations.

In 2002 Dr Alex Allinson MHK relocated to the Isle of Man to join the Ramsey Group Practice as a GP Partner where his passion for the Isle of Man was borne and his interest sparked in creating a more equal and fair society
