Join us for a special lunch event featuring world-renowned expert, Tim Hames, as he discusses the implications of Donald Trump's presidency on global trade and politics.

Join Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Surrey Branches for lunch and chance to hear from a World Expert, Tim Hames, on Trump and the implications for the world in terms of trade and politics, timed to be after Trumps first 100 days it is a perfect time to reflect on the impact and implications.

In November 2024 as Donald Trump won the election, Dr Tim Hames decided to sit down and write “TRUMP II Why He won and what it means for the World”. It is an extraordinarily insightful and timely look at implications of Donald Trump's second term and the implications of it not just for the US but for the rest of the world.  Now a few months on the impacts are beginning to be seen.

Please join the IoD for a sit-down buffet lunch followed by an insightful talk by Dr Tim Hames on the impacts of Trump II and things to consider for the future, with a particular emphasis of the risks that may impact business. The discussion will be followed by informal chance to network.

The event is held at Leander Rowing Club on the banks of the Thames in Henley, a wonderful location with plenty of parking and brilliant views overlooking the river; worth a visit in itself.

Speakers

Dr Tim Hames

Tim Hames has had an extensive career, working in journalism, politics and finance, including roles as Director General of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital (BVCA) and Assistant Editor of The Times newspaper.

He is a senior adviser to private equity and venture capital companies. He also specialises in advising start-up companies. As an Assistant Editor, chief leader writer and a weekly columnist at The Times, Tim edited a major daily newspaper making decisions over coverage such as September 11 attacks and the global financial crisis.

As Director General of the BVCA, he represented over 700 companies in the private equity and venture capital sectors and led the industry’s response to policy changes, including a renegotiation of taxation terms in the UK. Tim has lectured in Politics at Oxford University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Travel and Tourism, an industry with which he is also very familiar.

Tim is the co-author (with Dame Kate Bingham) ‘The Long Shot: The Inside Story of the Race to Vaccinate Britain’, which has been listed for the Financial Times business Book of the Year. He is now a co-founder and a partner at Acuti Associates, a political / geopolitical advisory consultancy.
