Roger Marsh, chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP), has been elected to the national council of the Institute of Directors (IoD).

His appointment was confirmed at the recent IoD Annual General Meeting in London and he will serve for a term of three years.

The role of the IoD Council is to ensure that the organisation delivers the objectives of its Royal Charter, manage key appointments and hold the board to account.

Since becoming chair, Roger has led the LEP through a period of significant transformation, securing the country’s largest Local Growth Deal settlement - bringing in more than £1bn of investment to the region.
He has more than 30 years’ experience in business recovery, turnaround and insolvency and was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours of 2015 for services to business and the economy.

Roger said: “The IoD has been at the forefront of supporting businesses and their leaders for more than a century so I was honoured to be asked to take on this important role. I look forward to contributing to the IoD’s influential voice on matters of national policy.”

Lady Barbara Judge CBE, chairman of the IoD, said: “The IoD intends to be an exemplar of good corporate governance and, to achieve this, we call upon the experience and expertise of business leaders from across the country. Roger’s extensive knowledge of the Yorkshire business community will ensure that this important region has a respected voice on our council.”

Jonathan Oxley, chairman of the IoD in Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “Roger will be a terrific ambassador for the North, as we seek to build leadership and investment to make the North a Powerhouse for the national economy with a profile on the global stage as a key knowledge and innovation based business environment.”
