Hospitality expert signs up for IoD Ambassador network

Suzanne Burns appointment comes as IoD launches members’ hub at Durham University Business School

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed human resources expert Suzanne Burns as its first Ambassador for Hospitality and Tourism in the North East.

Suzanne has more than 20 years’ experience in travel and tourism as a Human Resources Director with hotel companies including Marriott, Hilton, Millennium and Copthorne.

She runs a HR Consultancy firm founded in 2006 which works with SMEs to make the most of their teams, drive engagement, productivity, return on investment - and fun.

In her new role with the IoD, Suzanne will help to raise the profile of North East business, drive membership of the business leaders’ organisation and promote collaboration between hospitality providers and the wider business community.

Dr Joanna Berry, chairman of IoD North East, said: “We’re off to a flying start in 2019 with Suzanne joining our fast-growing network of fantastic Ambassadors.

“We have a superb calendar of events lined up for the year ahead and, with Brexit set to dominate the business agenda, there has never been a better time to join the IoD and benefit from the inspiration and support of fellow business leaders.”

Suzanne Burns said: “My firm belief is that a healthy and happy workforce is the key to achieving business objectives. As a coach and trainer, I support leaders and teams internationally with their business strategy and personal development

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Joanna and the IoD North East team to drive the profile of the hospitality and tourism sector and encourage more people to put people at the heart of their business strategy.”

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has launched an official business hub at Durham University Business School. Members can use the School’s world-class facilities and hire meeting rooms for free on production of their membership card. The School offers 12 contemporary, well-equipped meeting rooms for conferences and meetings during term-time and vacations.
