Our Marvellous Mentors

Our Marvellous Mentors

I am pleased to report the continuing success of our student mentoring programme which operates at both Coventry University and the University of Wolverhampton. This is only possible due to the marvellous help we receive from so many IoD Members who act as mentors.

For those of you who have not been involved to date the system works like this:

  • We concentrate on employability and those all-important so called soft skills which we all know are so important!
  • We support business students in their final year of a business related degree.
  • Students are matched individually with IoD Members according to their chosen subjects.

Recently, at both universities we have been concentrating on interview skills with many of our bright young people seeking internment positions in some great companies both locally and internationally.

Additionally, as well as one to one mentoring we also operate a range of group sessions. Recently, IoD member Craig McVoy spoke to mentees in Coventry on the importance of aligning yourself with the right organisation in terms of brand and values. In Wolves, motivational speaker Susanne Vitanen spoke about selection interviews and the importance of smiling, voice tone, being positive and how to create both energy and rapport.   Afterwards we were joined by more students and IoD Members and each student was able to experience mock interviews followed by instant feedback.

As we approach our final term, I thought it would be a good opportunity to thank all of you who have so generously given your time and I hope that even more IoD Members will come forward to help us again with our 2018/19 academic year. The last seven years has proven to be equally enjoyable and rewarding for both IoD mentors and students!
