Furloughing Q&A Session
Two weeks ago, the word Furlough was not one that many of us would have used, but now it has the power to excite, provide hope and confuse!
There was huge relief when the UK Government stepped in to cover a large share of the wages of inactive employees who would otherwise have been laid-off or made redundant due to the sharp slowdown in business activity. Through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, inactive employees will remain employees of a company or business, but will be placed on “furlough” – a paid leave of absence. This means that businesses will be in a better position to bounce back once recovery starts.
Moving at such a pace, it is not surprising that the Government announcement came with little detail and a number of questions. Whilst some of these remain unanswered, there is some clarity now and we hope this informal session will allow you to get a better understanding of the scheme and how it could help your business.
IoD West Midland's Webinar session was led by Hannah Clifford, an Employment Specialist at Irwin Mitchell in Birmingham, and supported by Dean Kavanagh, MD at QED Environmental Systems Ltd and long standing IoD member and Chartered Director.
We are delighted to share the slides from the Webinar.
