At the end of October, the University of Surrey invested in 70 IoD student memberships for it’s postgraduate students and early career researchers.
Aimed at fostering closer links to the business community across Surrey, the students will be attending IoD events and, through their newly formed committee, hopefully running some of their own events that will be open to IoD members.
This gives us all a great opportunity to think about how we could develop collaborative partnerships with various aspects of the leading edge research that is being conducted at Surrey to give us all greater competitive advantage.
IoD members Laura McBrown, Alec Sanderson and Simon Earl joined me and Joe Fitzsimons, Yusuf Muntazir and Lesley Bennet (from IoD Pall Mall) at the launch meeting, where we had the opportunity to meet the new IoD student members. Laura, Alec and Simon talked about their perceptions of the benefits of IoD membership after which we ran a session on how to make the most of networking meetings. A great evening was had by all and we’re looking forward to further engagement with our newest members.
