Former Serviceman, William English, CBE, was admitted as a Chartered Director (CDir) on 15th October 2018.
William completed his military service career of 36 years in 2017. A leader and strategist, he has returned home to Kent and now runs his family farming business, Owen English & Son, located between Maidstone and Tonbridge. Following his transitional education with the IoD on his journey from ‘Tank Man to Business Man’, he was recently invited by the Chairman of the IoD (Kent), Jane Ollis, to become an Ambassador for the IoD in Kent, which he was delighted to accept.
The chartered journey with the IoD has been core to enabling William to transition his family business into the 21st century. As William is still in the early planning stages of this transition, the training has been invaluable in guiding his business stratagem. In the Service William was a trained planner at the strategic and operational level; the IoD training programme with follow-on continuous professional development support has provided him with the business confidence and acumen to make this transition a reality. In addition William has felt a warmth and respect from the business community towards him, acknowledging the standing of CDir. There is no doubt in his mind that the programme has been life transforming in enabling him find his feet as a future business man and entrepreneur.
William looks forward to supporting the IoD and the IoD Kent Committee in enabling members and businesses in Kent.
