Nigel Earnshaw appointed to lead IoD Kent

27 Jan 2021

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed Nigel Earnshaw to chair its Kent branch.

The chartered civil engineer becomes the voice of business for the county, working on behalf of around 750 members from industries ranging from agriculture and engineering to banking and financial services.

Nigel started his career in construction, building roads, tunnels and sea defences. He later held senior roles and delivered capital investment programmes in the water and airport industries.

He is a Chartered Director and Fellow of the IoD and has served on a number of infrastructure delivery boards. His particular area of interest is addressing the climate emergency and helping businesses to build on the opportunities of a low carbon economy.

Nigel said: “I’m looking forward to connecting with directors and aspiring directors in Kent. It’s been an extremely challenging 12 months for all of us and the IoD will play a key role in ensuring directors are equipped with the skills and contacts needed to lead business recovery. A thriving business community is vital for generating the wealth we need for the society we want to live in.”

Nigel succeeds interim chair Jules Quested-Williams, director of Built for Marketing.

The IoD is the UK’s number one organisation for directors, providing connections, influence and world-class professional development.

Faisal Khan, regional chair of IoD South, said: “I’m delighted that Nigel is taking on this important role at the helm of one of our largest branches, which represents a truly diverse business base.

“His considerable experience will be invaluable as we engage with businesses, local authorities and education providers to build better directors and a prosperous business community.”
