IoD appoints Sue Lawrence as Surrey chair
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed Sue Lawrence to lead its Surrey branch.
Sue is an IoD Chartered Director and Fellow and has been an IoD member since 2008. She has written two handbooks on company meetings and committees and edited the Good Governance Guides on boardroom dynamics, strategy and risk management on behalf of The Chartered Governance Institute.
She has a portfolio of non-executive directorships and appointments as an independent trustee to employee-owned companies, straddling sectors such as architecture, construction, professional services and regulated financial services.
Previously she enjoyed a successful career in the professional and corporate services sector, initially within financial services and latterly heading UK divisions of professional outsource companies.
As IoD Surrey branch chair, Sue has responsibility for providing branch leadership working with the IoD team and branch ambassadors to connect, develop and influence on behalf of members across Surrey.
The IoD champions better business and lobbied to secure vital support for directors during the Covid-19 pandemic, including financial assistance for wage bills and changes to insolvency rules.
Sue said: “I am honoured to be selected as IoD Surrey branch chair and look forward to representing directors and businesses across Surrey. As we emerge from the pandemic and confidence returns, it is more important than ever to help members find the connections and professional development opportunities that will enable them to bounce back and lead the economic revival.
“The core belief of the IoD, that ‘Better Directors build a Better World’, has never been truer and I am looking forward to making my contribution to this better world through my role.”
Sue succeeds Richard Maybury as IoD Surrey branch chair, upon the completion of his three-year term.
She added: “I would like to thank Richard for his leadership and contribution during his term of office, which has been a particularly challenging period for all of us.”
