IoD Berkshire Supports Smart City Cluster Project in Thames Valley
Institute of Directors, Berkshire is actively involved in shaping Smart City Cluster Project in Thames Valley led by Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership. The Smart City Cluster project is a two-year £1.73m Internet of Things (IoT) project, which is being funded through a Local Growth Fund capital grant from Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership. The project, led by Reading Borough Council on behalf of the Berkshire Unitary authorities of Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell and West Berkshire, will demonstrate how technology solutions can meet real-world challenges in delivering public sector services. Raj Singh, Chairman of IoD Berkshire represents and leads as LEP representative on this project from industry, investment strategy and appraisal point of view.
First Challenge Fund Call has just been concluded and calls for the second £500,000 challenge fund is currently open. The Challenge fund is targeted towards funding of innovative solutions to solve real public services challenges for the local authorities of Berkshire region. This Second Call consists of five Challenges
• Tackling climate change
• Tackling climate change in schools
• Supporting the development of an arts and culture vibe
• Using Chatbots and AI to improve council highways and waste services
• An open smart cities IoT solution
Each Challenge will involve two phases of development and pilot so that the benefits can be evaluated and knowledge can be shared, as these are common challenges faced by councils across the UK. Grants of up to £100,000 are available for each Challenge.
