Welcome to 2019 from Raj Singh, Berkshire Chairman
First of all, let me take this opportunity to wish you a very happy new year full of success, happiness and peace.
Like any other year, this New Year also brings in its own set of opportunities and challenges. Anticipating challenges well in advance and navigating successfully in unchartered waters is what makes an effective leader stand apart from the crowd. I have always believed in glass half full approach. This year has already started with the hallmarks of 2018 - market volatility and turbulence, political uncertainty, BREXIT, pockets of growing protectionism, on-going trade tensions between the US and China, endless political posturing and serious mixing of politics with economics. However, all these challenges provide us with the opportunity to redefine and reshape our business faster and better than our competition and serve our customers and society better.
While these events are happening at the world stage, we all know that IoD has started its own transformation
journey. Charlotte, Stephen and the wider IoD team have been continuously engaged on that journey with you. After taking up the Chairman’s role for Berkshire in Sept. 2018, I have engaged with a number of members to understand what will they like our local branch to deliver to them. I have cherished these passionate and important conversations.
IoD Berkshire exists because of its members and should serve its members to the best of its abilities. Membership engagement is a key ingredient to our service and it is with that intent that I call upon your help to shape and govern our initiatives in Berkshire. We will be engaging with you through LinkedIn to seek guidance on how do we serve you better, which peer support networking mechanism is preferred by you, which events you would like to be organised, which common interest groups you would like to be associated with, which event formats are better for us and many more. Effective communication is a challenge for well-resourced organisations. At the branch level, our resources are scarce, and we depend extensively on our volunteers to run the branch. Hence, I will be delighted and personally obliged if you could join our Berkshire LinkedIn group to provide us with an effective engagement channel. I can promise you that we will be governing the group closely to ensure that it does not suffer from over communication and your precious time is respected.
With this sincere personal request, I once again wish you and your family a very happy new year 2019! Let us keep the conversation going!
