The Competition and Market Authority’s investigation into Retail Banking was of significant interest to IoD members, many of whom have previously complained of difficulties accessing finance.
While some other responses focussed on potentially enforcing break-ups of larger banks, the IoD feels the most important element of the retail banking mix would be increasing competition, which will require long-term cultural change that is difficult to deliver via regulation or legislation. Improvements to the potability of data are one such measure we would like to see.
