Dorset business leader shortlisted for major regional business award
Mark Entwistle, founder and Managing Director of Christchurch-based KaarbonTech, has been shortlisted for the Institute of Directors (IoD) South West regional Director of the Year Awards.
KaarbonTech develops innovative asset management software designed for use on smartphones and tablets. It uses Ordnance Survey GIS data and combines it with environmental data sets such as flood zones to enable users to manage and mitigate risk factors. Products are used by highways maintainers, commercial drainage companies and tree inspectors. One product has been developed specifically in conjunction with Surrey County Council to create winter maintenance efficiencies.
Mark is a mentor to local students through Young Enterprise and in 2015 won the Dorset Chamber of Commerce Business Award for Excellence in Innovation.
The South West’s IoD Director Awards seek to highlight and celebrate outstanding business people across the region, bringing the enterprise community together and focusing UK-wide attention on South West success.
The winners will be announced at the region’s annual celebration event on Thursday, 25 May at Ashton Gate Stadium. If they are successful in their categories, they will go forward for a chance to be a national award winner, judged against all the other regional finalists. Mark will be joined by other finalists from Cornwall, Bristol and Gloucestershire.
IoD South West chairman Nick Sturge said: “Once again we had an extremely high standard of entries demonstrating the breadth and depth of talent, enterprise and leadership across the region. I am also very pleased to be seeing more diversity in the nominees and the sectors they represent.
“Great leadership is essential to steer an organisation forward and our award scheme looks for individuals who understand and fulfil their responsibilities as directors or trustees. This will be one of the key factors in judging our winners.”
The guest speaker at this year’s event is IoD Director General Stephen Martin who will be making his first visit to the region since he took over the post at the start of the year.
