A Message to Our Members from IoD South West Chair Muir Macdonald
The current situation is changing daily and the Institute, like all organisations, is constantly reviewing the support we can offer members during this challenging time for all of us. Here in the South West, as nationally, it’s important we keep the show on the road as far as is possible and sensible. We’re adapting as we go to your needs and the ways we can do this through technology. This Wednesday (25th) we’ll have our first virtual Wednesday @ 6 networking session from 6-8pm, assuming Zoom allows us the capacity! But we want to give it a go because, as we all know, interaction is really important so we don’t feel isolated or alone in this in any way.
In addition there are a few points I want you to be aware of:
- Our Director General Jon Geldart is in almost daily contact with the Business Secretary and the policy team is in close dialogue with central government departments including the Treasury. Our regional and national directors are in touch with devolved and local government. If members are unsure the impact this can have, check out the minutes of the Bank of England interest rate setting committee
, in which they reference a ‘timely survey’ from the IoD which influenced their decision to cut rates (it was the only business survey on Covid out at the time).
- Please refer to the IoD Covid 19 Hub
launching the coronavirus hub with useful links, explainers and other support and reading: it’s being updated regularly.
- Be aware of the IoD email that has been set up for those with ideas to help members: firstname.lastname@example.org
Directors are facing challenges yet are also a critical part of helping the country (and planet) out of this, and be fitter for the future. We are all right behind you.
Most of all, stay safe, take no unnecessary risks, and reinforce that with loved ones and colleagues.
IoD South West's first virtual Wednesday @ 6 meeting will take place from 6pm Wednesday 25th March, to be kindly hosted by IoD Bristol Member Kirsten Hemingway of Unai – use the link here https://zoom.us/j/4406749390 if you wish to join her and other IoD Members.
