Formed in 1998, the Machan Trust makes a positive difference to the life chances of children and young people in the Larkhall area by providing them with activities, experiences and opportunities. The charity works with over 600 children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years and directly with their families and carers, to build stronger communities, promote inclusion and tackle the barriers to it.
In order to support the charity’s exciting development, the Machan Trust board is looking to recruit a new Chair and a number of Trustees.
Charity Trusteeships can be incredibly rewarding as well as support personal and professional development. As a member of the Board of Trustees/Directors, which is the governing body, you will set the long-term strategic direction for the organisation as well as provide advice and guidance to the other Trustees and the Executive Team in your specialist field. You, along with your fellow Trustees, will ensure that performance is monitored and managed through internal controls and delegation and approve key strategies and policies to allow the organisation to achieve its objectives.
In addition to the governance roles, the key aspects of the Machan Trust board are to provide strategic direction and support for the CEO. Although the charity is looking for specific experience and skills to augment the board, they are also looking for diversity of thought to challenge the organisation to deliver even better outcomes for the children and young people.
To support the charity’s exciting development and continue to ensure equality of opportunity for people aged over 55 and carers, whatever their background, the Board of Trustees wish to a chair and trustee with experience in the following areas:
• Experience of working with children and young people
• Advocacy and Policy
• Legal and Employment
While previous chair experience isn’t necessary, ideally you will have Board experience and be ready to step up to Chair. More important than previous chair experience, the charity is looking for someone with the capability to lead the board in a cooperative manner, to work closely with and support the CEO, and who has an understanding of the key issues facing a smaller, local-based charity like the Machan Trust.
Trustees are required to attend Quarterly board meetings, with no requirement for in-person attendance.
