The Ledge SCIO Inverness – Trustee Vacancies
The Ledge SCIO was established on 27th June 2017, to deliver and then manage The Ledge Climbing Gym and adventure sports training centre. This will be built at Inverness Marina. The Ledge is a charity registered in Scotland. Scottish Charity SC047530
The stated aims of The Ledge SCIO are:
“The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended” And the advancement of public participation in sport by:-
(i) creating a fund to support low cost access to sports facilities and training offered by the organisation to those with specific needs including , but not limited to, disabled sport, youth at risk and persons from remote and small communities;
(ii) the provision of sporting facilities and activities;
(iii) encouraging entry into mountain based sports by funding training, equipment purchase, payment for guides and external teaching and instructor services and;
(iv) the promotion of healthy active living through adventure and outdoor sports.
The charity is a single tier SCIO as defined by OSCR the Scottish charities regulator. The Charity’s ambition in 2020 is to manage the establishment of The Ledge Climbing Gym and supporting sports facilities that include, large scale climbing walls, specialist training areas, gyms and a yoga studio. In this period we will also continue to develop the charity’s “social impact program” and advance partnerships to aid the Social Impact Plan (SIP) delivery. It is anticipated that we will start a 12-month design and building program in March 2020, which should see the centre open to the public in Spring 2021. Once open, the main business of The Ledge Charity, will be the delivery of our Social Impact Plan, which means offering life enhancing and life skills experiences for the betterment of any individual with a demonstrable need, irrespective of background and ability. At the same time we will be managing an amazing climbing gym worthy of the city and the region.
As a result of the imminent start to the construction works, The Ledge is seeking to expand the Board of Trustees to ensure adequate strategic direction, governance and professional skills are available to support the management and design teams.
The Ledge would welcome applications from individuals with experience in: ·
• Finance and accountancy
• Charity governance and 3rd sector fundraising
• Project management
• Legal and contractual skills
Whilst an interest in climbing and adventure sports would be useful, it is by no means a prerequisite for consideration. Applications will be welcomed from under-represented groups and preference will be given to applicants who are resident within the Scottish Highlands and able to attend regular Trustees and development meetings.
It is expected that during 2020 meetings will be monthly and when the Centre is open, quarterly. The Trustees role is unpaid but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed within the charity’s policy guidelines.
