The Gannochy Trust - Trustees (Non-Remunerated)

The Gannochy Trust - Trustees (Non-Remunerated)

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Trust, developing the organisation’s goals in accordance with the Trust Deed. Because of the Trust’s wide remit, the role is a very interesting and rewarding one. As well as grant awards made throughout Scotland and close work with beneficiaries, the Trust also manages a beautiful housing estate in Perth of 277 homes with affordable rents, a woodland park and the wider agricultural estate of nearly 700 acres.

In establishing the Gannochy Trust in 1937, for charitable and public purposes, AK Bell brought benefits to Scotland which are maintained to this day. The Trust’s funds initially comprised shares in the Bell’s whisky company and were latterly spread prudently and wisely over a wide spectrum of investments, which have grown significantly over the years. In 1967, with increasing funds available, the geographic footprint of the Trust’s donations was widened, with the approval of the Court of Session, from Perth and its environs to encompass the whole of Scotland.

The Trustee role has a time commitment of around 15 days per annum due to the complexity of the Trust and the involvement of Trustees in grant applications.
In order to improve the Board’s diversity we are particularly keen to receive applications from women and under-represented age groups. We will also favourably consider those that have experience of working with beneficiaries of the charity sector. New Trustees will be enthusiastically supported with our induction process and mentoring.
