Art in Healthcare is a national charity based in Edinburgh, Scottish charity registration number is SC036222. Our work dates back to 1991 and focuses on providing visual art experiences to people in health, care and community settings. Our vision is ‘Art for every healthcare setting in Scotland’ and our mission is to use visual art to improve health and well-being. We have our very own prestigious art collection, where we have over 1,600 pieces of art from a variety of professional artists, such as; Alan Davie, Ian McKenzie Smith and Kate Downie. Our collection is currently exhibited in 45 venues (such as; hospitals, care homes and respite centres) across 12 local authority areas in Scotland.
We also deliver a visual art and social prescribing programme called, ‘Room for Art’. This is currently being delivered in seven areas of Edinburgh, where doctors, community link workers and health agencies can refer people to the project with the aim of improving their health and well-being. This is funded by Edinburgh Integrated Joint Board until 2022. Art in Healthcare has a strong track record of working collaboratively with a range of partners in community health, the NHS, arts organisations, Trusts & Foundations and commercial sponsors.
Our board of trustees has 10 people from a range of backgrounds and we are currently looking for two new board members to join. We would welcome applications from under-represented groups and are looking in particular for applications from people with backgrounds in IT, law and creative learning.
