I hope this finds you safe and well in what continue to be unsettling times…
This time of the year always has the feel of a new term for me – and although this year is so very different - September still brings with it a sense of ‘getting back to it’.
More so than ever, this September, it is important to ensure you are fully utilising all IoD member benefits, you have planned your personal development – and especially crucial – you are putting aside time to continue to network, albeit virtually!
We have planned an exciting series of upcoming webinars, ranging from advice on starting and growing a business in the midst of a pandemic, digital innovation and a business engagement session with Minister Poots. We also have a Virtual New & Renew Member Lunch scheduled for 2nd October. This is a great opportunity for new members to virtually meet the IoD NI Team to officially welcome you to the membership & to hear more about member benefits. More information here.
We will continue to work with our sponsoring partners and networks to ensure our webinar programme remains on-point and timely. Please do let us have your feedback on any topics you would like us to cover. Get in touch with Chelsea Brennan
Dealing with the impact of COVID has taken up significant resources of directors’ time, effort, money and skills. However, it is even more pertinent that the director community source relevant support, guidance and legal counsel. Leadership styles are changing, agility is the order of the day – make the most of the significant range of support mechanisms available to you as an IoD member. Remember:
- Lots of information on our website …. is being updated all the time, ie COVID, BREXIT.
- Our Director Advisory Service (DAS) is an excellent info hub for queries that relate to YOUR director responsibilities.
- The tax and legal helplines are there to help.
- There is support for CV prep, coaching on non-executive roles.
Professional development (PD)
The IoD has been supporting business leaders for over a century and our world class professional development programmes are specifically designed around professional competencies. All our training has moved to a virtual platform, we have added more dates to cater for an uplift in professional development and we have developed a new suite of bite sized, director training to help you better understand your role as a director. The Professional Director Series (PDS) is mapped to the IoD Director Competency Framework, keeping all learning relevant, up-to-date and in line with professional development ambitions. Currently PDS covers:
- Company purpose and ESG
- Leading from the Chair
- Step to the Top
- Strategic Decision Making
More info on all our professional development and new PDS modules can be found here.
Something to celebrate…. And we did celebrate all that is great and inspiring about Northern Ireland’s directors at our Director of the Year Awards (DOTYA). The awards were hosted via a live video show with a guest performance from the lovely Nigel, from BT9! A very different format to previous years, but nevertheless, great fun and a welcome opportunity to celebrate!
We had an amazing field of contenders this year both in terms of quantity and quality… the judges really had their work cut out! We awarded the inaugural Philanthropist award supported by CFNI to Alan Nappin, ARN Foundation. Brendan Mooney from Kainos Group picked up the Chair’s Award, sponsored by AIB and we had ten other categories ranging from young director, SME, large, public and third sector. A big thank you to all our sponsors who worked with us to ensure this year’s event was as successful and uplifting as always. If you missed the virtual IoD NI AIB Director of the Year Awards, you can watch the full ceremony here.
This has been a difficult year for most of us, priorities have changed and the demands on our time and resources are tighter than ever before.
As a team we really miss the social interaction with our members, the great events and networking and the personal bonds we develop with each other. However, we continue to bring you a programme of varied and informative webinars, stellar professional development and regular opportunities for formal and informal updates.
Please make the most of these opportunities, continue to engage in the network, reach out if you have an issue or wish to share best practice. Most importantly stay safe and sensible!
