Winner, winner chicken dinner … though in our case it was a lovely lunch!
What an afternoon we had at our Director of the Years Awards (DOtYA) 2019 celebrating the best in class with NI’s leading directors. Adrian Moynihan of First Trust Bank, our event sponsor, summed up the event perfectly when he said…..
“The IoD Director of the Year Awards programme is a fantastic way for us to highlight the importance of leadership within the business community and given the uncertain times we live in, we must ensure that our business leaders voices are heard loud and clear. Each of the finalists demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, innovation and visionary thinking - truly inspiring qualities which help drive Northern Ireland’s growing business community.”
And that indeed is what these directors do. We awarded 12 winners this year (full list here) including the highest accolade for Excellence in Director and Board Practice – the Chair’s award.
This was presented to William Barnett, who represents the fourth generation of his family to lead W&R Barnett. It is the first personal business award ever to be presented to William who was among 11 business leaders to be honoured at the lunch ceremony in the Merchant Hotel, Belfast.
All NI winners will now progress to be considered for the national IoD Director of the Year Awards, which take place in London in October. Traditionally IoD NI punches above our weight at this event, with two national winners coming from NI last year. So fingers crossed for all our winners in this years competition.
Also this month we hosted a series of business dinners and lunches, spanning a wide range of business topics from electricity infrastructure, green energy, technology start ups - to pubs, clubs and all things hospitality as Northern Ireland’s food and drink sector continues to flourish. A truly eclectic mix of speakers and attendees at these events is what makes the IoD network so interesting.
Member benefits ……..
Full members can benefit from a host of support and advice via our Information and Advisory Service (IAS) – one area to consider is - Help with T&Cs
Given the current unsteady business environment and the fluctuating trade conditions it is more important than ever to ensure your business terms and conditions are in order.
A company’s terms and conditions are a written statement of how the company will treat suppliers and customers, and how it is to be treated in return. Terms and conditions are fundamental to getting paid on time and avoiding misunderstandings which can end up as costly disputes. Our advice helps explain what terms and conditions should cover. A really useful tool for IoD members is a template Terms and Conditions for the supply of goods or the supply of services. More information here. Remember these free benefits are there to help you in your business – so please do maximise them!
Discounted car parking
An additional member benefit now available is discounted parking and fast track security at Belfast City Airport. Contact email@example.com for more information on this.
