Well – thankfully that is January over! Break out the chocolate again!
This has been a busy month as people action their new year resolutions to develop networks and invest in themselves. As a result, we have welcomed lots of new members representing financial services, public sector, engineering and sporting organisations. There has also been tremendous interest in our professional development suite of qualifications. The IoD’s professional development programmes are specifically designed around professional competencies. Our training is delivered by directors for directors and is designed to boost your development and confidence as a director or senior leader. We are planning a number of taster events to showcase our learning and development offering – more details to follow.
Meanwhile, please get in touch with Lisa Maltman for further information.
Planning is in full swing for the annual Women’s Leadership Conference (WLC), running on 6th March, at Crowne Plaza, Belfast. Our events team have pulled together a diverse and colourful array of speakers. Last year we had tears, laugher and super networking. I expect there will be even more of that this year given the calibre of speakers. I am especially looking forward to hearing from Dame Bell Burnell, award winning Northern Irish astrophysicist. Full programme can be found here. Though we are almost sold out!
January also saw the launch of our Director of the Year Awards (DOTYA). This annual competition celebrates all that is positive, innovative and successful across the NI director community. There are 10 categories, including innovation, international through to family business and young. Please do not be modest, this is an excellent opportunity to gain recognition and a chance to raise your profile and that of your organisation or business. Full details on the categories and deadline here.
No matter how well connected you are, sometimes you need independent and confidential business advice from a specialist.
The Directors' Advisory Service provides IoD members with just that, free of charge. Our expert advice covers issues from raising finance to board appointments and shareholder disputes. Advice is given by appointment either in a face-to-face consultation at our Pall Mall office or over the telephone, depending on adviser availability. This is an excellent service providing free, impartial advice and career guidance, especially for those looking to explore senior and non-executive roles. More information here on the service and how to book a session.
As always, please get in touch if you have any queries or want to talk about IoD membership.
