I am sure no one is sorry to see the end of January – though we had a busy month with some cracking events to start of what is going to be a really busy 2019.
Our first Young Directors event of the year was Business for Punks with Terri Hooley which proved to be a highly entertaining event. Terri turned a snowy, cold night into one full of candour and colourful tales as he shared his personal story - which definitely was one worth hearing! Great to also have Charlene Hegarty and John D'Arcy from the OhYeah Music Centre, a real hidden gem in NI music scene. Thanks to our sponsor Barclays and hosts KPMG who all helped to make this such an interesting event.
There was a packed room for our Connect & Influence series, in partnership with NIE Networks, on Friday 25 January. Katrina Godfrey, Permanent Secretary for the Department of Infrastructure shared a comprehensive overview of the responsibilities, challenges and vision for her department in these extremely turbulent times. Our Chairman, Gordon Milligan, facilitated a lengthy Q&A session, which allowed attendees an opportunity to engage with the Permanent Secretary in an open and constructive forum.
One final call to celebrate the best in NI Business. There is still time to nominate yourself or a worthy colleague, across 11 categories. Remember you do not have to be an IoD member to apply.
Nominations are open for the IoD NI Director of the Year Awards 2019, sponsored by First Trust Bank. You can read all about the IoD Director of the Year Awards here.
The awards seek to celebrate the best performing directors in the private, public and third sectors across NI, but also afford business leaders the opportunity to be recognised on the national stage.
I would strongly encourage you all to apply! Category winners will be announced at a ceremony in The Merchant Hotel, Belfast on 17th May, 2019. NI winners will have the chance to be shortlisted for the IoD UK Finals later in the year.
