Groundwork MSSTT is a member of the Groundwork Federation – a network of independent Charitable Trusts with a focus on sustainability and environmental regeneration, operating across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their geographical remit covers the southern half of Greater Manchester and the Eastern half of Lancashire.
The Groundwork movement was originally established in the early 1980’s, with a brief to kick-start physical regeneration in deprived areas, in particular bringing former industrial sites back into community use, and to be a link between the public and private sectors and grassroots community groups. Since that time their remit has widened considerably to encompass a range of social and sustainability themed objectives, which include working with young people; creating green spaces; providing employment and training opportunities (especially for ex-offenders) and delivering consultancy support to businesses on issues such as environmental management systems, waste minimisation and resource efficiency.
Groundwork MSSTT are currently looking to recruit a number of new Trustees, partly as they have vacancies due to the retirement of several Board members, but also to ensure that their Board has the right skills set and experience to support the Trust as they develop a new business model, based much more on traded services and corporate sponsorship.
After a period of reorganisation the Trust is now in a position where they can start to grow our services and expand their offer, and one of the key areas of Trustee recruitment identified is for a person with a strong commercial, private sector background, who can help them better understand how to engage with businesses and who has a good working knowledge of corporate social responsibility agendas. They have a committed and enthusiastic Board, chaired by Keith Barnes (former Pro-Vice Chancellor at Salford University and head of the former Northwest Development Agency) and which includes representatives from the private and public sectors.
To have an informal conversation about the role please contact Mike Ormerod, Executive Director, Groundwork MSSTT on 0161 220 1060.
