07 Feb 2017

We are looking for someone who has a track record in a senior leadership role and who is a strong advocate for the IoD’s vision to support its growing membership base of business leaders and entrepreneurs, promoting strong governance and responsible business practices.

He or she will have a strong understanding of the North West, and specifically the Liverpool area, and will be expected to promote the IoD with the region’s business community as well as other key stakeholders from the public sector and local policy makers.

The Role of an IoD Branch Chair

Purpose:  The Branch Chair is appointed as the IoD representative in the relevant Branch area, and leads the Committee.

Responsible to:  Regional Director and the IoD Board

 Objectives:

  • To build a balanced Committee membership and to lead it so that it functions effectively with a positive team spirit.
  • To understand, uphold and promote national IoD policies, activities and standards and to ensure that Committee Members are kept fully and accurately briefed on them.

  • To agree with the Regional Director and the Committee Members a Branch Strategy Plan. This adopts the aims of the IoD in the local context and sets objectives for the Region or Branch.
  • To appoint individual Committee Members to carry out specific roles to achieve the objectives, and to ensure that they perform these roles proactively.
  • To ensure that any public statements made by Members of the Committee - including the publication of newsletters and press releases - follow the guidelines set out in 'Formulating and Communicating IoD Policy'.

Typical Activities:

  • Attending a Branch Chairs Induction programme within three months of assuming role
  • Building the Branch Committee by:
