The IoD Isle of Man Branch Committee is delighted to welcome, Carolyn Gelling and Russell Kelly as new committee members.
Carolyn is Head of Isle of Man Office for The International Stock Exchange Group, she is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), a Chartered Wealth Manager and has completed the Institute of Directors Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction. Carolyn commented that the Institute of Directors was the ‘go to’ professional body for her at a time when she was being asked to join company boards;
“My initial lead into the Institute was in relation to the IoD qualifications, at a time when I wanted to be fully trained and knowledgeable in the specific requirements of acting as a company director and to develop my skills in order to perform to a high level in that role. My employer at the time whole heartedly supported my request to study for the IoD qualifications and I completed the Certificate in Company Direction, and then went on to complete the Diploma immediately after. Membership of the IoD has helped immensely in my professional journey over recent years, through qualification and continued learning, as well as having the opportunity to meet some inspiring leaders and to increase my professional network along the way. In joining the local branch Committee, I intend to contribute to the Institute’s work on the island as we support and represent business and help to develop the skills of those in director roles, and those aspiring to be.”
With over 20 years of financial services industry experience, Carolyn is a technical investment manager by training whose career to date has encompassed asset management, investment analysis, investment operations, corporate governance and business and strategic development, for private clients and their structures, institutional clients, funds and investment businesses in both the UK and international business jurisdictions and for whom she has held board positions. Carolyn joined The International Stock Exchange in 2016 to launch and spearhead its entry into the Isle of Man and now also leads on various initiatives for the exchange as it develops new propositions and markets, alongside the continuing growth of its long standing business that has been established since 1998. Carolyn is a past Chairman of the Isle of Man Wealth & Fund Services Association and currently also serves as a Committee Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Isle of Man branch and the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce Finance & Professional Services Committee.
Russell is the Senior Partner of KPMG in the Isle of Man and sits on the board of the entity that runs KPMG’s businesses across a number of international financial centres. He has worked for KPMG for his entire professional career and during this time has worked in the Isle of Man, Jersey, London and Gibraltar. His specific client sector focus is on e-Gaming and Wealth Management and in terms of practice areas Russell specialises in audit, transaction services (M&A) and restructuring. Russell is a Fellow of the ICAEW and a graduate of Lancaster University.
Russell joined the Committee as he believes that
