IoD Essex members and guests were given the opportunity to learn the story behind IoD 99 member Adam Cozen's Perky Blenders, highly Commended in the East of England IoD Director of the Year awards 2018 and who have successfully demonstrated how to make the transition from start-up to scale up.
Perky Blenders are small batch, speciality grade coffee roasters. Their beans are predominantly (but not exclusively) sourced from farms in South America and Africa, and hand-picked for their quality and provenance. From humble beginnings of selling coffee from the back of a scooter van in Walthamstow, Perky Blenders now have a takeaway kiosk and two cafés (with two more locations shortly to open) as well as having diversified to take Perky Blenders as a pop-up stall to local events and offering a bespoke letterbox service.
IoD Essex were lucky enough to sample Perky Blenders speciality coffee, alongside a selection of nibbles before Adam talked us through their story so far, highlighting the challenges faced and lessons learnt. Talking about his focus upon their brand, how he ensured every customer was given the same exceptional level of service and his mission to ensure every member of staff enjoyed their work, it was fantastic to learn from one IoD Essex's new and successful start-up entrepreneurs where his success lie.
After his presentation the Q&A started, with the huge volume of questions from guests demonstrating how engaged and interested everyone was in their brand and success.
Our thanks go to Perky Blenders for their hospitality and for providing IoD Essex with such an interesting, informative and enjoyable evening.
