Q: How long have you been involved with the IoD?

8 Months

Q: Can you tell us a little about your career to date?

Laura Morrison has over 30 years sales and marketing experience initially in  IT and Market Research sectors. Having undertaken numerous courses in the field of sales, negotiation, presentation and sales management, Laura went on to complete a Diploma in Direct Marketing.

For the past 16 years Laura has worked in the Outsourcing sector, with a specific specialism in contact centre solutions, especially outbound data cleanse & enhancement, lead generation and appointment setting, through to telesales.

Laura founded Your Telemarketing Ltd 6 years ago and has grown her business to employ a team of 8. She has become recognised as a specialist in her field and shares her knowledge though networking groups, expert sections and personalised training courses. Laura will share her experiences at both an employed senior level director, as well as a successful business owner.

Q: What do you hope to achieve as an IoD Branch Ambassador?

I’d like to be able to support other business owners who want to grow their business, but where sales & marketing is not in their key skillset. I’m keen to share knowledge, experiences and expertise. My passion is changing perceptions around telemarketing and enabling businesses to incorporate telemarketing into their core marketing strategy. I also want to promote the benefits of the IOD, plus other services offered to the group, and indeed non-members.

Q: If you could give your 21 year old self some advice what would it be?

Take a break! And I mean this in so many different ways…… give yourself a break (nothing is ever that bad), take time to relax and spend time with family & friends, take regular breaks through the day (the benefits far out way getting one more thing off your ‘to-do’ list!).

Q: What keeps you busy outside of work?

2 now teenage children, mainly being a taxi driver, but also 2 horses. My passion is horse riding. I came back to riding at quite a late age, but found that whilst riding I didn’t think about anything else for over an hour. The relief was enormous. I’m now addicted. My horses are my therapy.

Q: Are there any business related or policy issues that keep you awake at night?

As an employer I do worry at times about my staff. However, overtime, I have educated myself to know that what ever the issue, I can sort it out. So now I find my sleep is disturbed much less.

Q: Why do you think business leaders should join the IoD?

Education, knowledge share, networking, support.
