The first in a series of webinars for IoD Essex launched this week, welcoming Ross Chaplin and Alison Shadrack to the branch in their first events as new Chair and Vice Chair.
Joined by IoD members and other leaders of the local Essex business community, Ross and Alison shared their backgrounds and details of their current businesses, details of which you can read here and here. We then also learnt of the plans for IoD Essex in 2020 followed by short presentations from both Ross and Alison, sharing their areas of expertise and giving us some ideas to implement in our own businesses.
Ross spoke to us about the leadership challenge and the four leadership building blocks; setting direction, clear roles, effective rules and excellent relationships. With particular reference to the current challenging situation with Covid-19, Ross shared his thoughts on what options are available to directors to deal with the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity we are facing and how tapping into your relationships, including the strong circle of influential people at the IoD - will help you with this.
Alison shared with us her thoughts on the promotional challenge and how focusing upon retaining as much of our existing customer base as possible and increasing our visibility in front of our ideal audience will help us gain more in better times. Member and guests were also given the opportunity to feedback on what the Government and the IoD could do to help our organisations cope with Covid-19 and navigate this difficult period.

The webinar was a great opportunity to bring us together, share ideas, offer assistance for each other and ensure that the IoD continues to support it's members at this time.
