IoD Cambridgeshire experience the future of motoring!

31 Oct 2018
IoD Essex and Tesla

IoD Cambridgeshire members and guests were informed and thrilled in equal measures at the recent event with Telsa, where after learning about the revolutionary transition to sustainable energy that Tesla is helping to pioneer, we experienced first hand the future of motoring when we took the cars for a thrilling test drive along the Cambridgeshire road.

Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers who wanted to prove that people didn’t need to compromise to drive electric – that electric vehicles can be better, quicker and more fun to drive than gasoline cars. Today, Tesla builds not only all-electric vehicles but also infinitely scalable clean energy generation and storage products. Tesla believes the faster the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future, the better.

Recent sales figures show that Tesla's new model 3 car has outsold all BMW & Audi cars in the USA and with production now being increased from 80,000 to 400,000 cars per annum they have now entered the mass market of car production. With stats. including a 0-60mph acceleration of only 1.9secs and top speed of 250mph, Tesla cars performance is now rivalling that of a formula one car and with a Q3 2018 profit of $312 million Tesla is a company that everyone is now watching.

After watching some exclusive video footage demonstrating the unrivalled performance of Telsa cars, we got behind the wheel ourselves. After engaging auto-steer, we took our hands off the steering wheel and feet off the pedals and left the car to drive itself, an amazing and slightly unnerving experience!

Our thanks go to Tesla for an very enjoyable and highly informative day.
