IoD Essex and IoD Hertfordshire were delighted to be able to join Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) at their North Weald hanger for an interesting and enjoyable evening of networking and sharing ideas.
After driving across North Weald airfield to reach EHAAT'S hanger (and seeing signs warning us to give way to aircraft!), our sell-out evening was spent in the hanger alongside the Agusta Westland 169 (AW169) helicopter and rapid response vehicles. In addition to networking with other IoD members and guests and enjoying the nibbles and drinks provided, we were lucky to be able to hear from and speak with pilots and staff from EHAAT, who have recently celebrated 20 years of saving lives in Essex and Herts. Since fund raising began in 1997, EHAAT have flown over 20,000 missions - being deployed two to three times per day with the aim of saving lives, reducing or preventing disability by delivering a first class pre-hospital emergency medical service to the people of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. As a Charity Air Ambulance service providing a free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for the critically ill and injured of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas, EHAAT is not funded by the NHS and costs £6.5 million every year to cover all charitable costs and aircraft operations.
The two hours flew by, with IoD 99 members and guests each delivering a short micro pitch, enabling them to share ideas and areas for potential collaboration. Many comments were made upon the fantastic work that EHAAT undertake and for our appreciation for their fantastic hospitality and opportunity to get so close and learn about their amazing helicopter.
“After attending the event I was highly impressed. The Air Ambulance people are fantastic and I really liked the set-up with the IOD members and guests. Great job last night, after which I have decided to join the IoD.” Andy Newman, Licensing Consultant & Expert Witness, Andy Newman Consultancy Ltd.
