Introducing our new Suffolk Branch Ambassador - Hana Dickinson

19 Nov 2018
 IoD Norfolk Ambassadors

IoD Branch Ambassador Introduction

Your name: Hana Dickinson

Your title/role and company name: MD of The Bridge & The County Wire

Your IoD branch: Suffolk

Your IoD Branch Ambassador role: Ambassador for PR

Q: How long have you been involved with the IoD?

Not long, but I’ve seen that it’s doing a lot more in the region and has been reinvigorated over the past couple of years, and I’m keen to support this proactive approach to business and communication in the region.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your career to date?

I did a fair few years in Corporate Communications for large financial institutions in London before setting up a strategic marketing & PR agency in Woodbridge in 2011. I set up The County Wire in 2017, launching - a county-wide news website delivering regular, affordable media coverage for businesses across Suffolk. Following success in Suffolk, and a real appetite from the regions’ businesses, we launched NorfolkWire in 2018.

Q: What do you hope to achieve as an IoD Branch Ambassador?

I’d like to breakdown the barriers to communication in the county to enable businesses to communicate better with each other and consumers, which should increase commercial opportunities and bring the county closer together as a whole.

Through improved communication we can also demonstrate to the young people of Suffolk that we have a plethora of opportunities for meaningful careers in a diverse range of industries right here in this beautiful county. It would be great to retain more of our young talent.

Q: If you could give your 21 year old self some advice what would it be?

Do more exercise and stop eating chips.

Q: What keeps you busy outside of work?

All sorts! My family keep me on my toes. I also love dog walks, watching rugby, the odd run here and there, a bit of travel and enjoying a beer with friends.

Q: Are there any business related or policy issues that keep you awake at night?

None that keep me awake. That worry time seems to be reserved for my child. During waking hours I do worry about things like: the rapid development of technology and the implications that brings for business, the disconnected nature of Suffolk and the effect that has on communication for businesses, the way Suffolk is misinterpreted as old fashioned and slow, when it’s a hub of talented entrepreneurs and a base for a number of global businesses.

Q: Why do you think business leaders should join the IoD?

No man is an island. We can accomplish much more together.
