Q: How long have you been involved with the IoD?

I have recently joined the IOD personally although our firm has been involved in supporting IOD events and in particular with our sponsorship of the annual IOD Essex Christmas Breakfast for the past two years.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your career to date?

I qualified as a solicitor in 1994 after completing my articles in London and continued working in London until joining Wortley Byers in 1997.

I became a partner in the corporate commercial department in 1999, a team recommended by the Legal 500, and headed up that team between 2009 and 2012. I then took on the role of Finance Partner in 2013 and was appointed Managing Partner of the firm in January 2014. I now split my time between fee earning and managing the business.

I specialise in mergers and acquisitions in a wide variety of industries, joint ventures and collaborations and the corporate aspects of running a business. My expertise in commercial matters has ranged from advising on large outsourcing projects in many sectors, from print management to waste collection services and contracts for a wide variety of services.

Q: What do you hope to achieve as an IoD Branch Ambassador?

I hope to be able to support the IoD in growing their profile and reputation in Essex. I would like the opportunity to contribute some of my knowledge of the business community in Essex and be instrumental in talking about the great things we are accomplishing here.

Q: If you could give your 21 year old self some advice what would it be?

To grasp every opportunity you are lucky enough to have and that if you shoot for moon, even if you miss, you will still be among the stars.

Q: What keeps you busy outside of work?

My children! My son is a budding actor and my daughter won ITV’s first ever “Voice kids” last year. I spend most of my time outside work at theatres, gigs or in studios!

Q: Are there any business related or policy issues that keep you awake at night?

The impact of Brexit.

Q: Why do you think business leaders should join the IoD?

It’s important for us to have a forum where we can openly discuss things with our peers- it can often be lonely being a business leader and the opportunity to share ideas and learn from other business leaders is great. I think we can all benefit from attending professional development training and events very much tailored to us and our needs.
