Q: How long have you been involved with the IoD?
Q: Can you tell us a little about your career to date?
I worked for a large commercial printer for nearly 20 years, working in every department from finishing through sales. I headed up several of teams during that time and help implement many improvements to the business. I spent most of that time in customer service and sales which taught me a huge amount about effective communication and working with businesses and organisations of all sizes and types gave me a great insight into how companies could market themselves more effectively.
In 2007, I set up Green Light Print Solutions Limited, for 2 reasons; the first was to ensure that companies were getting the right advice on what was available to market themselves and what the true advantages and disadvantages of such actions where. In 2008, I set up a marketing agency to compliment the services of Green Light and close the circle on everything a customer would want to consider allowing them to make informed decisions, based on cost, time and likely outcomes before acting. This is delivered via a very effective methodology we developed and use called the Marketing Mountain.
Q: What do you hope to achieve as an IoD Branch Ambassador?
For me it is about education and sign posting. I would like to help other business owners get the right advice on how to market to and communicate with their customers, but perhaps more importantly understand best practice and what the risks are of any given course of action.
Q: If you could give your 21 year old self some advice what would it be?
Don’t always believe what other people tell you about your own abilities, believe in yourself and don’t try to do it alone.
Q: What keeps you busy outside of work?
I love spending time with my family and friends, playing squash and guitar and gardening.
Q: Why do you think business leaders should join the IoD?
I think people join the IOD for many reasons, but for me it was because IOD gave me a solid network of contacts from whom I could get support from and gain knowledge via peer to peer learning. It was also the opportunity to impart some of my experience to others. The quality of the events in terms of their content and range of subjects covered. It is prestigious membership organisation that I am proud to be a part of and is step above some of the other opportunities out there.
