IoD Hertfordshire & the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce came together at the Spotlight Theatre in Hoddesdon on the 14th March 2019 to discuss current Brexit negotiations and the impact on the UK Economy.
The event came at a crucial time in Brexit proceedings, as tension in the House of Commons was at its highest due to 3 crucial votes on the 12th, 13th & 14th March.
Joining us on the day was Charles Walker OBE, MP for Broxbourne; Neville Reyner, CBE, DL, Chairman, Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce; Allie Renison, Head of Europe and Trade Policy, IoD; Malcolm Evely, Head of Mechanical Engineering and Products, Space Systems, Airbus Defence; Darren Jordan, Partner, Kingston Smith; and Neil Hayes, Executive Director, Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Our thanks go to all the panel members who gave up their time to speak to us and thanks also go to the Chair of the event Mark Mills-Bishop, Leader of Broxbourne Borough Council.
Charles Walker MP gave a passionate and sincere talk on the state of Parliament and apologised to businesses for the current failings. Due to the vote in Parliament that afternoon, Charles needed to leave early so a lengthy Q&A session followed his talk. The other panel members then spoke in turn. The general consensus from the panel was to remain calm and Darren Jordan spoke of optimism. Neil Hayes then gave a presentation giving statistics for economy in Hertfordshire and another Q&A session followed.
