IoD East Midlands is launching a new executive support group to help directors develop their skills and lead their organisations to growth. The group is aimed at members who would like to work with like-minded people who are also looking to grow their businesses and developing solutions to the challenges being faced.
Called the Directors’ Development Group, the sessions will be facilitated by experienced executive coach Helen Amery from Wild Fig Solutions and will focus on developing leadership skills in a confidential, open and non-judgemental setting. At each session, participants will be encouraged to discuss issues affecting their own organisations and look to share solutions and best practice.
- MD, CEO or Director of autonomous division
- Trading for at least two years
- Turnover of at least £500,000 with scope for further growth
- Employ 10 people minimum with view to hire
Helen said “The business sector they operate in is unimportant; what is important is that we get people together who are at a similar place in their own personal journey, and that of their businesses. We want people to be able to discuss issues that are likely to affect the entire group, and seek solutions from within.”
The sessions will be strictly confidential and non-competitive. “We’ll encourage delegates to be open and to have no fears of information revealed being relayed outside the sessions.” There will be no formal agenda for each session; rather, delegates will bring topics drawn from their own experiences and challenges for the group to explore. “If the group decides that they want to dedicate a session to a particular subject, say social media or working with venture capitalists, then we will bring in experts to lead that session.” Helen will facilitate other meetings. An experienced coach, she began her career with Boots plc in its HR division, before discovering executive coaching and the amazing difference it could make in developing business leaders.
She set up Wild Fig Solutions to develop her interest in this field three years ago, and it has been a great success since. She currently works with a wide range of Directors drawn from across the business spectrum.
The Directors Development Group will be looking to hold eight sessions a year, to be hosted in a central Midlands location. It is envisaged that participants may offer to host sessions at their own places of work, allowing other delegates to understand better the way different businesses operate.
