Our President, Alderman Sir David Wootton, our Chairman, David Stringer-Lamarre and the Committee of IoD City of London invited guests to our prestigious annual black tie dinner in the Mansion House.
The event took place in the splendid Egyptian Room in the presence of The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor Alderman Alan Yarrow.
This flagship event of the branch brought together business leaders and influencers from many sectors in a convivial and glamourous atmosphere.
The evening began with a champagne reception and networking with esteemed guests. It was then followed by a three course dinner during which time we were welcomed by the Lord Mayor. After this, our guest Lady Barbara Judge CBE addressed the room.
Lady Barbara generated considerable press attention with her bold speech on free trade. She also championed women in the city and the innovation of the City of London.
Earlier in the year she took office as the new Chairman of the Institute of Directors. She is a highly successful international business woman and a member of IoD City of London. She is also the first woman to chair the IoD.
After the dinner there was the ancient tradition of the ‘stirrup cup’ before carriages. The stirrup cup is the last drink of the evening, with origins in horse riding It apparently evolved from the last drink one would have consumed after mounting one’s horse before you set off, presumably for home.
As ever, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening in a beautiful setting. We look forward to the next one!
