Join the IoD Kent Ambassadors ‘Influence’ Sub-Committee in a Quarterly 55 minutes online Policy and Governance Presentation & Discussion

‘Better Directors Build a Better World’

The IoD believes that ‘Better Directors Build a Better World’.  Over the 3 years, 2021- 2023, the IoD Kent Influence sub-committee will be reaching out, on a quarterly basis, to IoD Members in an online, Policy and Governance Presentation & Discussion, in support of the IoD maxim 'Better Directors build a Better World'.
The IoD Kent Influence sub-committee is lead by Kent Policy and Governance Ambassdor William English CBE, supported by  Senior Branch Manager for IoD Kent and SE Region, Lesley Bennett.

Each event will be 60 mins long and include a guest speaker, speaking for 25 minutes, followed by 25 minutes of  un-recorded open forum discussion on the chosen subject.  In the last 5 minutes the Chair will sum up. The 3 year programme is design to support directors strategic mid and long-term planning.

We hope Members will find these events both intellectually stimulating and an opportunity to broaden their network across the IoD community.

William English CBE, CDir, FIoD:  IoD Kent Ambassador for Policy and Corporate Governance

William is a Chartered Director and Fellow with the Institute of Directors (CDir & FIoD); a Chartered Manager (CMgr) and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI); a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS) and Master of Science (MSc) in Defence and Strategic Studies.  
William English CBE, has had a 36-year career serving across four continents in the Armed Forces.  Having worked at senior levels in cross-government policy development, as well as strategic and operational delivery, William also brings considerable experience working within multi-national organisations, including NATO, the European Union and the United Nations.  William brings proven global strategic, political/military and media planning expertise to the board of OSTC Ltd Group as an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED).  In addition, William is the Owner of his own multi-generational family business/estate in mid-Kent.

Kitty Ussher IoD Chief Economist

Kitty Ussher is a UK macroeconomist and public policy research professional.
She holds a degree in Politics and Economics (PPE) from Balliol College Oxford and an
MSc in Economics from Birkbeck College London. Her early career included working as
a macroeconomic forecaster at the Economist Intelligence Unit.
A former MP for Burnley, her government experience includes serving as Economic
Secretary to the Treasury (“City minister”) during the early phase of the financial crisis
(2007-08) and also as a junior minister at the Department for Work and Pensions
(2008-09). Previously she was a special adviser at the Department for Trade and
Industry, and a local government councillor in Lambeth.
Since stepping back from active politics in 2010 she has mainly devised and delivered
public policy thought leadership research projects, most recently as the chief economic
advisor at the cross-party think tank Demos, as well as through her own company
Tooley Street Research.
From 2017-19 she undertook a sabbatical teaching maths in inner-city schools on the
Now Teach scheme established by the FT journalist Lucy Kellaway. She is also a
non-executive director on the board of two financial services companies.
