IoD North West & Yorkshire: Working together to support economic recovery in your region

27 Jan 2021
IoD Yorkshire & North East Online, Online

Working together to support economic recovery in your region: In conversation with Jennifer Halliday, CMA Director and North West, Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Champion

What can attendees expect from the session?

The global pandemic has hit everyone hard.  In particular, the northern regions have faced strict tiered restrictions since before the second national lockdown.  This, combined with the composition of the local economy and uncertainty surrounding EU Exit, has led to business pressure and strain.

Now more than ever, a level playing field where SMEs can compete to the best of their abilities, is critical for recovery.

In this session Jennifer is keen to hear from local businesses about the competition and consumer protection issues they face, gather views on economic recovery and director level responsibility.  In turn Jennifer will update on the CMA’s work and advice for company directors.

The CMA wants to build a collaborative relationship with businesses in the region. We want to better understand local pressures and issues, share advice, and gather views to help shape CMA priorities.

Have your voice heard by joining the discussion.

About the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA):

The CMA, formerly the Office of Fair Trading and Competition Commission, is the UK’s primary competition and consumer authority. It is an independent non-ministerial government department with responsibility for strengthening business competition, carrying out investigations into mergers, markets and the regulated industries and enforcing competition and consumer law.

Key aims of the CMA, outlined in its draft 2021/22 annual plan (currently open for consultation) include helping drive recovery during and after the coronavirus pandemic, protecting vulnerable consumers and supporting the UK economy by fostering competition to promote innovation, productivity and growth.
